Lamb Treat!

Lamb is sooo good!!! If someone tells you it isn't, then they haven't had properly prepared lamb! It's actually extremely fatty so that's why Glenn and I usually have lamb on special occasions or on "oh what the hell" days. We got a pound of lean cut lamb at Whole foods and instead of following a recipe, I did my own thing!

It actually came out pretty delicious. I marinated the lamb overnight in soysauce and brown sugar. I cut up some onions, mushrooms, and cooked the lamb in additional soysauce, cinnamon, rosemary, salt, pepper, and a dash of cumin. Served it with some brown rice and broccoli (Glenn's favorite)! The lamb was so tender! It wasn't dry at all! The dish was a pretty sweet dish so I think next time I'll go easier on the brown sugar but increase the saltiness with some Worcestershire sauce!

LAMB IS YUMMY! Good bye!

ZTejas Southwestern Grill

Ztejas is the place for first dates in Austin. So of course, Glenn has never taken me there. I'm a fan of southwestern cuisine (actually any food to tell you the truth) so when it was suggested we go there for Brunch....I said a "hells yea". Deliciousness and fattiness ensued.

Fresh warm cornbread greets you while you wait for your food. Soft, moist, and it even had pieces of crunchy corn in it with each bite! Yummy! Especially with a ton of butter!

Everyone except me ordered brunch. When you order brunch you get your choice of an apple bran muffin (which is to your left) or a banana nut muffin. The banana nut muffin was sweet but super soft and fresh. Glenn's apple bran muffin was TOO DELISH! It had chunks of carrots in it with a sweet cinnamon flavor. It was basically a fluffy carrot cake without the frosting. YUMMMY.

So while the guys got protein in a form of eggs, Diana decides to get the smoked chicken chile relleno: grilled poblano pepper stuffed with chicken, pecans, apricots, raisins, spices, and jack cheese served with picante sauce and black beans.
OMG. I've been wanting to try one since Bobby Flay made one on his show "Throw down with Bobby Flay". It was really good. The chicken was sweet from all the fruit pieces but you also got the heat from the spicy peppers! The cream cheese just enhanced the savory dish!
. Heavy meal but damn, was it good! The chicken inside the pepper was so tender! I couldn't stop eating this!

Now I understand why this is a date place...the food is freaking good! Aphrodisiac! Everyone in Austin has probably eaten here already but if you haven't, please check it out! Ztejas

Midori Sushi

Before the era of Yama, there was Midori Sushi. Located in north Austin, this place was our place to gorge. We decided to have a nice dinner there Saturday night. Now, you know I love Yama but Midori was pretty delicious. If you don't want to travel to Round Rock to Yama, Midori is the next best choice. It's one of the top 3 rated sushi restaurants in Austin!

(Photo taken on iPhone) We got a sushi/sashimi combo with the Marilyn Monroe. The sashimi was really fresh and thinly sliced. The roll was delicious. It had salmon inside and out and was drizzled with a (fatty) spicy orange mayonnaise sauce. Very good! I also enjoyed the apple sliced garnish!

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY from Bobby Flay!

My apologies

My apology:
I haven't tried or cooked FRESH new recipes in a long time. I apologize. This is not up to theyummyblog standards. I've been busy with work and I'm in the process of moving so I apologize. I still hope you like my blog so I promise that in the next couple of weeks there will be great things!!

Possible spoiler alert: new apartment "housewarming" gathering, homemade protein bars, new bbq grill are seen in the next couple of months! Stay tuned!

Texas Land & Cattle

Happy 4th of July!!! I had to work today so no BBQ for me! Luckily Glenn wanted to eat out so Tom, Glenn, and I ventured out to Harker Heights. We were planning to try this Indian Restaurant but to our dismay it was closed. I suggested Texas Land and Cattle cause as a student in Austin, I was IN LOVE with it. I guess my taste buds have changed because even though our food was good, I've had better and I expected/remembered more. :(
Sirloin Steak Salad: Steak, red onions, tomatoes, HONEY mustard.
I love a restaurant with great honey mustard dressing. I used almost the whole thing! The steak was very tender but lacked great seasoning. Had to dip it in the honey mustard with each bite...or maybe that was an excuse of mine to eat all the dressing.
Glenn said it tasted like I was eating f*cking big mac. :( Sad cause he was right...
For dessert we ordered the Peach Bread Pudding: peaches, raisins in a bread pudding with a bourbon sauce and vanilla ice cream.
Delicious. It was basically HALF a loaf of bread, squished, baked with custard, raisins, and peaches and served with ice cream. It was HUGE and it was DEVOURED. The dense bread was slightly sweet but the sauce and ice cream added enough sweetness per bite. VERY good. This was actually a "drier" bread pudding than I'm used to but it was still tasty. Great bread pudding can be found at Carino's!!! I swear!
This dessert put me "over the edge". I had trouble walking the rest of the night. So FULL.

Digiorno Tuscan Style Chicken Crispy Flatbread Pizza

I want to make this clear that I am NOT a fan of Digiorno's line of pizza. It does NOT taste like delivery! It does taste like a frozen cheap pizza. When Glenn and I went to HEB though, we couldn't help but want to try their new line of flatbread pizza's though.
It comes in 4 "flavors": Tuscan Style Chicken, Pepperoni and Fire Roasted Bell peppers, Italian Sausage and onions, and Mushroom Medly
Glenn and I tried the Tuscan Style Chicken but I added some red pepper flakes to mine. I like everything spicy!
I was actually impressed. Maybe it's cause I haven't had "real" pizza in a long time but I was pleasantly surprised. It's not real salty like usual pizza but yummy. The cheese wasn't heavy but it was creamy enough! My favorite part was the crust. Although it was "thin" it still had enough savoriness and cheesy flavor to it that I felt like I was getting more crust than a usual thin pizza! Now if you are looking for a heavily topped pizza with oozing cheese, this is not for you. But if you are in a mood for a slightly heavier than usual thin crust pizza? Then try this! The crust was very tasty! Could have used a bit more chicken pieces and veggies...but hey...it's a FROZEN PIZZA!

Whole Foods Dinners

Whole Foods: Expensive but it's so easy to pick up "ready to cook and serve" meals there! Guilty of being lazy lately! I promise I'll start cooking more once I'm done with moving!

Wild salmon with assorted sesame seeds and a jicama salad.

The salmon was super dry! I did not enjoy this wild organic salmon.
The jicama salad is so light and refreshing this time of year. Has a great crunch. Combined with carrots, green bell peppers! Yum! Not too heavy and perfect for bbqs!

Baked sweet potato, couscous with chickpeas, salmon, and curry mahi mahi.

yes it's alot of food. DON'T JUDGE.
Sweet potato: I think having baked sweet potato fries has spoiled me because this regular sweet potato was tasty but blah!

Couscous with chickpeas: big mistake. chickpeas and couscous are delicious...but not COMBINED! The softness of the couscous did not go with the heaviness of the beans. :(

Salmon: We baked a regular piece of salmon with salt, pepper, and parsley. Delicious. Way better than the wild organic salmon dish above!

Curry Mahi Mahi: I had great hopes for this. the seasoning was great but the fish was actually a little dry and had a fishy taste! WTF! VERY disappointed.

Bridal Shower Food

You can argue with me on this: I feel like bridal shower, wedding shower, baby shower food can be better than food served at the actual wedding sometimes! Why? It tends to be freshly fixed foods without all the pretentiousness!

Amanda's Bridal Shower food: Fresh fruit kabob, fresh veggies with dip, and chicken salad on sour dough bread.
